The Irish Whiskey Society takes its member health and wellbeing seriously and is supportive of the Irish governments Covid 19 measures at safeguarding public health.
In light of the Covid 19 pandemic and Irish government restrictions on social gatherings, the Irish Whiskey Society (IWS) committee has determined that it may - from time to time - hold virtual tasting events. Such events are non in-person gatherings normally leveraging online video conferencing or live streaming technology.
The following terms and conditions relate to virtual tasting for as long as Irish government public health restrictions are in force on social gatherings. The committee will continue to review guidance as it is updated by public health authorities.
Irish Whiskey Society virtual tastings will be announced via the Society website at www.irishwhiskeysociety.com, or via email.
Unless otherwise communicated, participation is generally limited to members in good standing with the society. Where the committee decides to hold such an event, they will notify members of such tastings through its website or email. The society committee will determine if and where charges for virtual tastings will apply. A charge may include appropriate post and packing costs to enable a virtual (non-in-person) tasting.
Where sample tasting presentations (Kits) are included as part of the virtual tasting event and where the member has fully settled for such tasting, the society will endeavour to the best of its ability to dispatch kits well before the relevant event to allow for timely arrival. IWS accepts no responsibility for delays in postal or courier services beyond its control. Tasting kits will only be available to members with an address in the Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland where a full valid Eircode/Postcode is provided (PO Boxes will not be accepted). IWS is unable to ship outside the Island of Ireland.
By default, the Society will not offer any insurance, indemnity, registered post or courier options for despatching any presentation kits. However, should a circumstance arise where the items shipped warrant insurance and/or more secure shipping options, the committee will decide at its discretion how best to secure and safeguard such items.
Where the distribution of presentation kits cross any national border, the society will not bear liability for any taxes, charges, duties, tariffs, penalties, or additional fees of any nature whatsoever. In addition, the society will not bear liability for products which may be confiscated, delayed, inspected, damaged or destroyed by national authorities including customs authorities, postal services or similar. Members wholly accept liability for any such charges and have no recourse to the Society for any loss or damages.
The withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European United is scheduled to take place on 31 December 2020. There is uncertainty as to how cross-board activity will be regulated and as such legal changes may occur in the future which may have an adverse effect on the Society’s ability to lawfully enable members in good standing residing outside the European Union from participating in non-in-person events. Given this uncertainty, the committee of the Irish Whiskey Society reserves the right to withdraw - at any time - such member participation in such an event. Its decision will be final.
Where the society provides a tasting sample presentation as part of a virtual tasting and such presentation is damaged, destroyed or lost in transit, the society will not issue any replacement of lost or damaged presentations. No cash alternatives will be offered.
If due to technical difficulties or events beyond its control, the society is unable to successfully hold a virtual tasting on a previously notified date, the committee will determine at its discretion whether to reschedule or refund any amounts for such virtual tasting.
Members who register for any virtual tasting event are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.
