The Japanese have been producing whisky since 1870 with commercial production since 1924. Initially they set out to reproduce whisky in the Scottish style but have evolved to produce their own style.
There are 10 distilleries in Japan and their total output far exceeds that of Irish distilleries. Over the last 10 years Japanese whisky has started winning prestigious awards.
We plan on sampling a number of whiskies from the various distilleries to see how the well merited the awards are.
Note: we have a different venue for this event. We are camping out in Izakaya Bar for the full Japanese experience.
