When one thinks of Scotland it is the image of the mountains and moors, the lochs and castles. The rugged landscape with rolling fog and mist, a magical land when the Highlanders did battle and when they weren’t fighting each other they were making whisky.

The Highland Whisky region in Scotland covers the largest geographical area and encompasses a huge variety of different distilleries. The whiskies produced are generally big bodied with large taste profile, peat and smoke come into the mix sometimes quite powerfully, other times a little more subtle. With a region that stretches from the housing schemes of northern Glasgow all the way to the Pentland Firth there is going to be an enormous amount of variety to be found.

This month our gustatory and olfactory senses will be put to the test by Liam Smith as he takes us on a whistle stop tour of his Highland highlights
