Have you opened your bottle yet? Well then. If you have, you know exactly why we want to celebrate. If you haven’t and you don't know, good news! You don’t need to because we’re having a launch! On Thursday June 2nd, we’ll be inviting our members and distilling industry colleagues to Wynn’s Hotel for a taste of some lovely pot still and the first official pouring from our own 2016 Marrowbone Lane commemorative bottling. This launch, along with the bottling itself, marks the second and centerpiece event in our four part 2016 commemoration of Dublin’s historical “big four” distilleries. During the era of the Easter Rising, old legends like John’s Lane and Bow Street would have been regarded as the crème de la craythur of old Irish pot still while their bulbous pots and tall chimneys cast a long shadow over both international glasses and the landscape of Dublin itself.
Today, all four of these distilleries have ceased production along with the city’s smaller operations and although brands like Jameson of Bow Street survived in blended form, all that's left of their cousins across the Liffey are the street name itself and a couple of stone walls that survived demolition. Those walls, which also sheltered the last rebel garrison to lay down its arms, still stand as a ghostly reminder of the world class liquids once produced within them but nothing liquid now remains with which to toast that old pot still heritage that came so close to extinction. Until today. So join us on the 2nd as we raise a glass of trad pot to old Dublin distilling and to the viscous oils, musty aromas, and pot still spices that first put Marrowbone Lane (and Dublin itself) on the fine spirits map.
This is a member's only event, so take advantage of the opportunity to share in this celebration of our society's new exclusive bottling! The launch starts at 7:30PM.
Please wait in the Bar to allow us to set up the event.
