It’s a long way by boat from Islay to Kerry, but not by the coat pockets of Beam-Suntory’s Stephen Magennis, who will be heading down to Dingle this month with a bag full of smoky treats from both the Bowmore and Laphroaig distilleries, as well as some smoked Irish Connemara for a full spectrum taste of what peated malt can do on either side of the Irish sea. Like Stephen himself (ex-Celtic Whiskey Shop), the Connemara brand (and indeed the Cooley distillery as a whole) is a relatively recent acquisition for the beam portfolio and they’ve been working round the clock to push this Irish classic into the global limelight enjoyed by classics such as Bowmore and Laphroaig. Does it deserve such illustrious company? How does it stack against the iodine reek and subtler smoky curvatures of these Islay legends? Ever had a taste of those legends themselves? Come join us on July 21st from 8pm for a top shelf flight from across these three peated wonders as we welcome Magennis, his malts, and many new flavours from the bottom of the bog to a top table tasting at Nellie Freds pub.
