IWS Dunville’s 12 YO Moscatel
The IWS is delighted to announce that the next bottling by subscriptions to our members will be a Dunville’s 12 Year Old Single Malt, Moscatel finish. This is a singular ‘single cask’, as it is the only one of its kind and we are very lucky that the good folks at Echlinville Distillery have assigned this rare gem just for IWS members and it will soon be bottled and released.
This single malt Irish whiskey was distilled in Nov 2011 and matured initially for a little over eight and a half years in an ex-bourbon American white oak cask, from which it drew a rich golden colour and an array of juicy fruit flavours. Such was its potential that it was transferred into a first fill moscatel cask in 2020. Since then, with nearly 3 and a half years in the wine cask, the finishing has added floral aromas, a rich mouthfeel with notes of thick cut marmalade to the palate.
As it had such character, it was destined to be rationed out as a component in Dunville’s special releases. However, we were lucky enough to be offered a cask sample from its hiding place in the Echlinville Distillery warehouse. At 55.1% abv it drinks beautifully with grace and finesse, and the Cask Committee easily agreed that it should be our next bottling.

We hope to offer approx 200 bottles by subscription starting on 21 November at 7pm. To give everyone a chance, we are limiting the first round subscriptions to one bottle per person. In line with Constitution policy, bottles may only be allotted to those with membership periods longer than 6 months (ie who joined the Society BEFORE 21 May 2023.) Any subscriptions placed that are not eligible will not be processed and payments will be refunded. For logistical reasons, bottles will be sent by courier and cannot be collected.
The subscription will be €120, which will include postage and packaging, with the bottle being shipped directly to you on the island of Ireland. Those further afield will have higher shipping prices depending on location. In addition to this fantastic whiskey, the subscription on the first bottle will also include 6 months IWS membership for free.
If there are any bottles remaining, we will open a second round of subscriptions on Friday 24th November at 7:00 pm. Depending on availability, members may be able to secure a second (or possibly third) bottle at that time. The 6 months membership bonus applies only to the first bottle. To avoid ‘bottle flipping’ Society subscription bottles may not be sold by members to third parties (e.g. auction sites) for a period of three years after receipt. Records of bottle numbers are maintained for this reason.
As the liquid is still in the cask and we are in the process of bottling we cannot estimate when the bottles will be delivered. We are trying to expedite the process and have it completed as soon as possible but there have been a number of supply chain issues that are causing delays. Rather than delay the release any further, we wanted to announce now, so that you would know what to look forward to. We will keep you informed whenever we have updates on estimated delivery dates and we can guarantee that it will be worth the wait!

Payment through the website is the one and only way for members to subscribe to this bottling.
