A Feast of History, with whiskey and cheese on the side.
On Saturday, March 1st, we will be welcomed to the historical Hanafin's Bar in Annascaul.
John Hanafin himself will take us through some of the fascinating history of the premises and also his own story. We'll find out about the site having a Cooperage in the 1890's (for shipping salted butter), to the interesting fact that John's Great Grandmother, Grandmother and Mother were the Publican, due to the law stating that women were exempt from paying rates on a commercial premises. John's Great Grandfather in the Census of 1911 was an apprentice Cooper and in 1921 was recorded as a publican. The aforementioned butter took six days to get to Cork. More of that from John on the night.
We'll also be treated to an exceptional night of Whiskeys, to be paired on the night for the first time with Cheese. Presenters on the night from the Dingle chapter will have chosen their desired whiskey and in collaboration with the Mark Murphy of Little Cheese Shop in Dingle, paired a suitable cheese to enhance the character of each Whiskey and its taste profiles.
A night not to be missed.
