Prepare your palate for a journey into the world of peat smoke, exploring a phenomenal line-up that challenges the conventions of smokiness. From classic heavy-hitters to lighter, more nuanced expressions and unique cask influences, this tasting is designed to showcase the incredible diversity and depth that peat can bring to a dram.
Our selection features a fantastic mix of power, cask influence, and regional styles:
Springbank 12 Cask Strength 56.2%: A Campbeltown classic, known for its complex oily, salty, and subtle peat profile.
Kilchoman Sauternes 2024 50%: A heavily peated Islay malt with a unique finish in sweet Sauternes wine casks, adding layers of honeyed fruit to the smoke.
Meikle Tòir 5yo Single Malt Chinquapin 48%: A newer, lightly peated expression with a finish in Chinquapin oak, offering a different take on smoke and wood spice.
Ardara Single Malt Cask Strength 58.5%: An exciting Irish entry, often showcasing a delicate, earthy Irish peat that stands up to its Scottish counterparts.
Lagavulin 16 Single Malt 43%: The iconic "King of Islay" a benchmark of heavily peated, sherry-influenced whisky with intense medicinal and smoky notes.
Teeling Blackpitts Marsala Single Cask 60.8%: A powerful, triple-distilled peated Irish whiskey, this time finished in Marsala wine casks for a unique blend of sweet, smoky, and savoury.
The theme for the evening is to delve into the various "ghosts" of flavour that peat smoke can conjure—from the coastal salinity of Islay to the earthy, bonfire smoke of the mainland, and even the unique, triple-distilled profile of an Irish peated whiskey. We'll explore how different maturation and distillation techniques treat the smoke, and see which bottle truly captures the spirit of the season.
